In the field of non-woven fabric production, polyester (PET) and polypropylene (PP) are still the main raw materials, accounting for more than 95% of the total fiber raw materials used in non-woven fabrics. The geotextile made of polypropylene fibers through needle punching is polypropylene geotextile, also known as polypropylene geotextile or polypropylene fabric. Polypropylene short fiber needle punched nonwoven geotextiles are divided into two types: polypropylene short fiber geotextiles and polypropylene long fiber geotextiles.

The characteristics of polypropylene short fiber needle punched nonwoven geotextile include:

(1) Good strength. The strength is slightly inferior to PET, but stronger than ordinary fibers, with a fracture elongation of 35% to 60%; Strong strength is required, with a fracture elongation of 35% to 60%;

(2) Good elasticity. Its instantaneous elastic recovery is better than PET fiber, but it is worse than PET fiber under long-term stress state; But under long-term stress conditions, it is worse than PET fibers;

(3) Poor heat resistance. Its softening point is between 130 ℃ and 160 ℃, and its melting point is between 165 ℃ and 173 ℃. Its thermal shrinkage rate ranges from 165 ℃ to 173 ℃ at a temperature point of 130 ℃ in the atmosphere. Its thermal shrinkage rate is basically the same as PET after 30 minutes at a temperature of 130 ℃ in the atmosphere, and the shrinkage rate is basically the same as PET after 30 minutes at a temperature of around 215%;

(4) Good wear resistance. Due to its good elasticity and fracture specific work, it has excellent wear resistance;

(5) Lightweight. The specific gravity of polypropylene short fiber needle punched nonwoven geotextile is only 0191g/cm3, which is less than 66% of PET;

(6) Good hydrophobicity. Polypropylene short fiber needle punched nonwoven geotextile has a moisture content close to zero, almost no water absorption, and a moisture regain of 0105%, which is about 8 times lower than PET;

(7) Good core suction performance. Polypropylene short fiber needle punched nonwoven geotextile itself has very low moisture absorption (almost zero), and has good core absorption performance, which can transfer water along the fiber axis to the outer surface;
(8) Poor light resistance. Polypropylene short fiber needle punched nonwoven geotextiles have poor UV resistance and are prone to aging and decomposition under sunlight;
(9) Chemical resistance. It has good resistance to acidity and alkalinity, and its performance is superior to that of PET fibers.
