The main component of polyester flame retardant non-woven fabric is polyester, which is a polymerization product of terephthalic acid or diethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. The characteristics are as follows: high strength, good elasticity, good heat resistance, smooth surface, good wear resistance, good light resistance, corrosion resistance, and poor dyeing performance. The flame retardant mechanism mainly involves the addition of flame retardants, which are a type of material additive commonly used in polyester plastics, textiles, etc. Adding them to polyvinyl chloride can achieve flame retardancy by increasing the material’s ignition point or hindering its combustion, thereby improving the fire safety of the material.

Classification of flame retardants

There are many types of flame retardants, including halogenated flame retardants, organophosphorus and phosphorus halide flame retardants, intumescent flame retardants, and inorganic flame retardants. Currently, brominated flame retardants are commonly used in halogenated flame retardants.

Application of flame-retardant non-woven fabric

Yang Ran non-woven fabric is mainly used for sofas, soft furniture, mattresses, toys, home textile products, clothing, etc. It is the principle of using a mixture of low melting point fibers to lay and shape polyester fibers, viscose rayon, and wool fibers.

Judgment criteria for flame retardant non-woven fabrics

1. The heat release efficiency cannot exceed 80 kilowatts.

2. 10 minutes ago, the total heat release should not exceed 25 MJ.

3. The concentration of CO released from the sample exceeds 1000 PPM for more than 5 minutes.

4. When burning flame-retardant non-woven fabric, the smoke density shall not exceed 75%.

5. Flame retardant non-woven fabric is pure white, with a soft texture, especially good elasticity and moisture permeability, making it highly favored by people.

6. Using natural flame retardant fibers, there is no phenomenon of liquid droplets.

7. It has a self extinguishing effect and forms a dense layer of carbides during the combustion process. Low carbon dioxide content produces only a small amount of toxic smoke.

8. Flame retardant non-woven fabric has stable alkalinity and acid resistance, is non-toxic, and does not produce chemical reactions.

Testing of flame-retardant non-woven fabrics

Flame retardant non-woven fabrics have flame retardant and anti droplet properties, which can effectively form flame retardant firewalls.

① US CFR1633 test content: Within a 30 minute test time, the peak heat release of a mattress or mattress set must not exceed 200 kilowatts (KW), and within the first 10 minutes of release, the total heat release must be less than 15 megajoules (MJ).

Usage: Mainly used in mattresses, seat cushions, sofas, chairs, and home textile products.

② The main testing standards of British BS5852 include testing cigarette butts and simulating matches with acetylene flames, as well as observing the length of damage. Basically, a lighter is used to burn vertically on the surface of textiles for 20 seconds, and the flame automatically extinguishes within 12 seconds after leaving the flame.

③ US 117 test content: Cigarette test, no more than 80% of the overheated part, no more than 3 inches of average burn length, no more than 4 inches of large burn length, no more than 4 seconds of average burn time, no more than 8 seconds of long burn time, and no more than 4% of mass loss during open flame combustion.
