Invisible car clothes have multifunctionality and convenience, gradually becoming the first choice for car clothes. Invisible car wrap, also known as car paint protection film, usually used PVC and PU as substrates in the early days, but has defects such as irreparable scratches and easy yellowing. The new generation of TPU invisible car clothing uses TPU base film, which is made by precision coating with protective coating, glue, and adhesive film. This invisible car wrap not only has excellent impact resistance, puncture resistance, corrosion resistance, fracture resistance, and weather resistance, but also has high brightness, excellent yellowing resistance, and scratch self-healing ability. When used on the car body, it can isolate the paint surface from the air, greatly reducing damage to the car body paint layer caused by road scratches, flying stones, ultraviolet rays, acid rain, etc., and playing a role in protecting the car body.
Development of invisible car clothing
From the perspective of development history, the invisible car suit industry has been formed overseas for nearly 30 years. The invisible car suit has undergone at least four iterations and upgrades, from the initial PU material to PVC material, then to TPU material, and now to TPU material+coating and other technologies, with increasingly better performance and effects.
Recently, after multiple iterations, invisible car covers have gradually emerged in the domestic market, promoting the development of car beauty and maintenance in China. Car paint surface maintenance is gradually shifting from simple car washing, waxing, glazing, and crystal plating to the ultimate form of “invisible car covers” for paint surface protection. According to a survey, over 90% of high-end car owners have the habit of taking care of their cars. Most car owners choose to take care of their car’s paint surface, and invisible car covers are their preferred choice.
Analysis of the Invisible Car Clothing Market
The preparation cost of TPU invisible car wrap is relatively high, which leads to a higher terminal price of the car wrap compared to traditional car wraps, generally exceeding 10000 yuan. Among them, the TPU base film cost is about 1000 yuan, so invisible car wraps are mostly used in high-end car models. With the steady increase in disposable income of residents, the potential consumer group for luxury cars is rapidly expanding. According to statistics and analysis from the car clothing industry, the total sales of automobiles in China reached 25.769 million units in 2019, of which 3.195 million units were luxury cars. With a 50% penetration rate of TPU car clothing, the market space for TPU film in China is 1.6 billion yuan.
However, there are currently two development bottlenecks in the car clothing industry. Firstly, not all TPU materials are suitable for preparing laminated car jackets. The commonly used material for preparing invisible car jackets is aliphatic polycaprolactone TPU, which limits the production capacity of the invisible car jacket industry and is the main reason for its price exceeding 10000 yuan. Secondly, there are not many good TPU base film factories for car clothing in China, mainly relying on imports, such as Argotec in the United States. Overcoming raw material production capacity and base film preparation has become the primary challenge that urgently needs to be solved in the invisible car clothing industry.
