ExxonMobil launches ultra-soft, high-density hygiene nonwovens

Breathable Polylactic Acid Non Woven Fabric

ExxonMobil has introduced a polymer blend that produces nonwovens that are thick, ultra-comfortable, cotton-like soft, and silky to the touch. The solution also provides low lint and uniformity, providing a tailored balance of performance in nonwovens used in premium diapers, pant diapers, feminine hygiene products and adult incontinence products.
“The partnership with Reifenhäuser Reicofil sets a new standard for high-density soft nonwovens to meet growing market demand around the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Olivier Lorge, Global Marketing Manager, Polypropylene, Vistamaxx and Adhesives at ExxonMobil. “This solution addresses the hygiene market’s need for innovative, differentiated soft nonwovens and will provide business opportunities to ExxonMobil customers across the value chain.”
The solution is a blend of ExxonMobil, PP3155E5, ExxonMobil PP3684HL and Vistamaxx 7050BF high-performance polymers and can be easily processed using Reifenhäuser Reicofil’s two-component spunbond (BiCo) technology. Reifenhäuser Reicofil is a recognized market leader in integrated nonwovens, meltblown and composites production lines.
By adjusting the formulation, nonwovens can be tailored to the needs of various sanitary product components such as waistbands, backsheets and topsheets used in baby diapers, feminine care products and adult incontinence products.
This non-woven fabric has the thickness needed to provide cushioning, softness, elasticity and airiness while providing good drape, uniform product flatness and a stable, lint-free surface. Variations in formulation allow the nonwoven fabric to provide a different feel to suit application needs, from a cottony feel to a silky feel.
Spunbond fabrics are 15% thicker than other BiCo spunbond fabrics with high lofts, providing superior protection. In addition, it retains 80% of its thickness even after prolonged exposure to stress.
“This cutting-edge solution for tall spaces proves that collaboration can lead to true innovation,” said Tristan Kretschmann, R&D Manager at Reifenhäuser Reicofil. “With increased productivity, this solution is an ideal and cost-effective alternative to carded fabrics and expands the ability for brand owners and converters to create innovative solutions to meet different application needs.”
