The application of non-woven fabrics in non durable clothing has become very popular, such as water jet medical protective clothing, PP disposable spunbond protective clothing, and SMS medical protective clothing. Currently, the development of new products in this field includes two aspects: first, the new expansion of existing materials in the field of clothing applications; The second is the development of new non-woven fabrics.
Non durable non-woven fabric for clothing
SMS non-woven fabric
SMS non-woven fabric is a composite product of spunbond and meltblown, which has the advantages of high strength, good filtration performance, no adhesive, non-toxic, etc. It has played an important role in the fields of medical and industrial filtration materials. Its recent application is to utilize the characteristics of SMS breathability, no fiber dust generation, and prevention of particle exchange between the human body and the outside world. It is used in highly clean production environments such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, optoelectronic processing, electrical components, and chips. Spunbond nonwoven fabric is composed of high-strength continuous filaments and occupies a large proportion in the disposable protective clothing market. The latest development is to add special additives or perform post finishing in the production process of spunbond nonwoven fabric, making the product have functions such as flame retardancy, anti-static, radiation resistance, hydrophobic and moisture conductivity, antibacterial, and warmth retention.
New type of fiber
In the development of new fibers, water-soluble non-woven fabric is an environmentally friendly product, and its application scope is gradually expanding. Using polyvinyl alcohol water-soluble fibers to produce spunlace non-woven fabric is a good material for making radiation resistant and pollution resistant clothing. To increase the protective effect, it can also be combined with water-soluble film to enhance the barrier performance of protective clothing. In addition, in terms of the use of new fibers, foreign countries have also developed the technology of adding super absorbent fibers (SAF) in the production process of non-woven fabrics. This type of non-woven fabric containing SAF has a particularly good soft feel and water absorption performance. When used as a close fitting underwear, it can quickly absorb sweat from the human body, increasing the comfort of the microenvironment between the clothing and the human body.
Composite nonwoven materials
In the development of new composite non-woven materials, the United States has developed a new type of cotton fiber composite non-woven fabric. The surface layer is a thermal bonded non-woven fabric made of cotton and polypropylene fibers, which is combined with spunbond fabric to form a two-layer or three-layer composite material. The product has a similar hand feel to pure cotton knitted fabric, with good strength and elongation, water absorption and retention, fast core suction speed, and low pilling performance. After finishing, the instantaneous elastic recovery rate at 50% elongation can reach 83% to 93%, suitable for making medical isolation suits and disposable underwear. In addition, the new generation of biochemical protective clothing developed by the US military fully utilizes the advantages of woven, knitted, and non-woven fabrics. The outer layer of the protective clothing is tear resistant nylon/cotton fiber poplin, which has undergone water repellent treatment; The lining is non-woven fabric with activated carbon; The innermost layer is woven with tricot fabric. Compared with existing protective clothing, this type of clothing not only provides special chemical protection for soldiers, but also increases the portability of the clothing and reduces costs, and can withstand at least 3 washes.
Durable non-woven fabric for clothing
Due to the gap between non-woven fabrics and clothing fabrics in terms of drape, elasticity, strength, opacity, and pilling, as well as the lack of artistic sense in appearance, it is quite difficult to apply non-woven fabrics in the field of durable clothing. However, non-woven fabrics have the characteristics of being less prone to loose edges and slippage, being able to directly incorporate fabric edges into the design, and not requiring ironing or locking of clothing seams, which distinguishes them from woven and knitted fabrics. It is precisely because of the advantage of the simple sewing process of non-woven clothing that many researchers and enterprises are brave enough to face risks in product development. In recent years, research has focused on how to improve the drape, wear resistance, elasticity, and resilience of non-woven fabrics to meet the requirements of durable clothing fabrics.
Spunbond elastic non-woven fabric
BBAFiberweb and DowChemical joint venture have developed a new type of spunbond elastic non-woven fabric. The fiber is a skin core two-component fiber, the core layer is an elastic body, and the skin layer is a polymer with good extensibility. By adjusting the different ratios of the two components of the skin core, the resulting spunbond non-woven fabric has excellent elasticity, low elastic modulus, and high strength and dimensional stability. This provides the possibility for spunbond non-woven fabric to be used in durable clothing.
Fine fiber spunbond non-woven fabric
Japan’s Keleli and domestic enterprises are jointly developing ultrafine fiber spunbond nonwoven fabrics, using Ex cevaltm soluble resin and PP or PE, PA for composite spinning. One component is PP (or PE, PA), and the other combination is Excel.
Excevaltm is soluble in water below 90 ℃, biodegradable, and can absorb water. It is hydrophilic and has thermal adhesion when combined with PP (or PE, PA), making it very easy to form a mesh for processing. This type of spunbond non-woven fabric has much better water absorption performance than general spunbond fabric. Although its surface density is relatively small, its strength can still be comparable to traditional spunbond fabric, making it a good material for durable clothing.
spunlace nonwoven
Water jet non-woven fabric has the characteristics of soft touch, looseness, high moisture absorption, and wide use of fiber materials, making it the most suitable non-woven fabric for clothing. Therefore, its application research in durable clothing is the most extensive. A durable water jet non-woven fabric has been reported in the United States patent, which has good wear resistance and drape, is not easy to pill, has good color fastness, and can achieve a recovery rate of 90% when the elongation in the vertical machine direction is 50%, and can withstand at least 25 washes. This non-woven fabric has good elasticity and is suitable for making shirts and outerwear for daily wear. It combines close fitting comfort, good mechanical strength, and aesthetics, making it an ideal material for clothing production.
