On October 31st, the 2024 Annual Meeting and Standard Training Meeting of the Functional Textile Branch of the China Association for the Betterment and Progress of Enterprises was held in Xiqiao Town, Foshan, Guangdong Province. Li Guimei, President of the China Industrial Textile Industry Association, Xia Dongwei, President of the Functional Textile Branch of the China Industrial Textile Association and former President of Qingdao University, as well as representatives from functional textile related industry chain units, attended the conference. Zhu Ping, Secretary General of the Functional Textiles Branch of the Middle Class Association and Professor at Qingdao University, presided over the meeting.
Xia Dongwei introduced in the work report and future work prospects of the branch that functional textiles are closely related to industrial textiles and are an important focus for the transformation and upgrading of the textile industry. With the continuous expansion of the market size of functional textiles, the standard system for this field at home and abroad is also constantly being established and improved. The existing standards are not yet able to meet the high functional requirements of individual protective textiles, automotive textiles, and other fields. The testing and evaluation of functional textiles not only involves testing and evaluating their functionality, but also assessing their safety performance and defining safety limits. Therefore, the market for inspection and certification of functional textiles will gradually expand.
With the advancement of technology, it is urgent to provide a clear definition for functional textiles, improve functional performance standards and systematic evaluation systems, effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and guide industry technological innovation and progress. Xia Dongwei stated that in the future, there is an urgent need to raise the entry threshold for inspection and testing institutions in the field of functional textiles, strengthen industry self-discipline, and expand business areas. The next step for the branch will be to enhance its service capabilities, leverage its role as a bridge, promote its publicity work, and strengthen industry and international exchanges.
The second centralized discussion on the group standard for “Youth Military Training Clothing and Equipment” was held at this annual meeting. This standard is based on the principle of “advanced technology, in line with national conditions”, to solve some problems in the current military training clothing industry, and provide standard basis and reference for relevant departments to formulate military training clothing management methods.
At present, there is a lack of unified implementation standards for military training clothing for young people in China, and some products have poor quality and certain hidden dangers. The comfort and aesthetics of the clothing are insufficient, which cannot showcase the style of the youth team and assist in national defense education work. Engineer He Zhen from Tianfang Standard Testing and Certification Co., Ltd. reported on the discussion draft of the group standard for “Youth Military Training Clothing and Equipment”, hoping that the development of this standard can provide certain functional protection for young people, improve wearing comfort, and better engage in various training activities.
The attending representatives provided suggestions and recommendations regarding the technical requirements, testing methods, inspection rules, and other aspects of this standard applicable to training clothing, hats, accessories, as well as training shoes, training belts, and other products. They actively promoted the early introduction of the standard to meet market demand.
Li Guimei, the president of the Middle Class Association, mentioned in her concluding speech that the Functional Textile Branch selects special research directions every year, actively promotes industry work, and achieves fruitful results. Functional textiles have carried out a series of technological innovations around people’s needs for a better life, major national strategic needs, and facing the forefront of world science and technology, and have made significant progress. Next, focusing on the development direction of functional textiles, Li Guimei suggested that the branch should focus on cutting-edge technological progress, promote industry technological innovation, and encourage academic exchanges; Explore the construction of innovation consortium platforms, connect the industrial chain, and empower talent cultivation; Establish a mechanism for transforming achievements and continuously explore new fields of functional textiles through the use of digitalization.
During the annual meeting of the branch, the association also organized training on military standardization knowledge in the textile industry, providing representatives with training on military material management requirements, key points for drafting national military standards, the construction of standards in the field of general materials, and project principles.
