What fabrics are used to make masks?

In the production of masks, we commonly use five types of fabrics. Firstly, pure cotton fabric provides users with a comfortable wearing experience due to its natural environmental friendliness, excellent breathability, and strong water absorption. Secondly, polyester fabric, as a chemically synthesized fiber, is waterproof, oil resistant, and dries quickly after cleaning, while also being soft and wear-resistant. Furthermore, polypropylene fabric is mainly used to manufacture meltblown fabrics, and its high strength, high verticality, and uniform weaving characteristics ensure effective particle filtration and air circulation.

In addition, nano silver ion antibacterial fabric, manufactured using nanotechnology, has excellent antibacterial effect and bacterial filtration rate, suitable for long-term wearing and high production environment requirements. Finally, bamboo fiber fabric, as a natural material, is not only soft and smooth, but also has multiple functions such as antibacterial and deodorizing, making it very suitable for use as mask fabric.

In mask production, we commonly use the following types of fabrics.

 Polypropylene (PP)

Polypropylene is a common mask material and one of the most widely used materials currently. Mask fabric is usually made by melt blown fabric method, which involves melting polypropylene and spraying it into fibers, and then processing it into mask fabric through processes such as electrostatic adsorption and hot pressing. The advantages of polypropylene mask fabric are lightness, softness, breathability, and relatively low price. However, its stretchability is poor and it is prone to heat fusion, which can cause the fabric surface to harden.

Polyurethane (PU)

Polyurethane is a high-density mask material that can be made into elastic mask fabric. At the same time, polyurethane also has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. When making mask fabric, polyurethane is usually coated or composite processed. Its advantages are that it can inhibit bacterial growth and has good breathability, but the price is relatively high.

Polyester (PET)

Polyester is a tough mask material that is widely used in the medical field due to its excellent physical properties. The processing methods of polyester mask fabric are relatively diverse, which can be processed into different forms of fabric through needle punching, water punching, bonding, etc. Its advantages are high strength, reusability, but it is not breathable and prone to moisture and heat. Long term wear may cause skin discomfort.

New types of mask fabric materials

In addition to the common mask fabric materials mentioned above, there are also some new types of mask fabric materials such as antibacterial nanomaterials, Tencel, etc. These are very promising mask fabric materials that are expected to be widely used in the future.

In short, different types of mask fabric materials have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the selection should be based on actual needs. For consumers, when choosing mask products, they can choose the corresponding material type according to their own needs to ensure their health and comfort.

Dongguan Liansheng Non woven Technology Co., Ltd. was established in May 2020. It is a large-scale non-woven fabric production enterprise integrating research and development, production, and sales. It can produce various colors of PP spunbond non-woven fabrics with a width of less than 3.2 meters from 9 grams to 300 grams.
