What is the difference between medical non-woven fabric and ordinary non-woven fabric

Non woven fabric is formed by bonding fibers together through physical or chemical methods to have the appearance and certain properties of a fabric. Polypropylene (PP material) pellets are commonly used as raw materials, and are produced through a one-step process of high-temperature melting, spinning, laying, and hot pressing and coiling.

With the continuous development of production technology for non-woven fabrics, they have gradually become a new generation of environmentally friendly materials. They have the characteristics of moisture-proof, breathable, flexible, lightweight, non combustible, easy to decompose, non-toxic and non irritating, rich in color, low in price, and recyclable. They are used in medical, home textiles, clothing, industry, military and other fields. At present, the common categories of non-woven fabrics in the market can be mainly divided into two types: ordinary non-woven fabrics and medical non-woven fabrics. Due to their main use in the medical field, they have strict quality requirements. In addition, what are the differences between the two?

1. Antibacterial ability

Since it is a medical non-woven fabric, the primary criterion is its antibacterial ability. Generally, SMMMS three-layer spray structure is used, while ordinary medical non-woven fabrics use a single-layer molten layer structure. Compared to the other two, the three-layer structure must have stronger antibacterial ability. As for non-medical ordinary non-woven fabrics, due to the lack of a melt blown layer, they do not have antibacterial ability.

2. Applicable to multiple sterilization methods

Since it has antibacterial ability, it also requires corresponding sterilization ability. High quality medical non-woven fabrics can be suitable for various sterilization methods, including pressure steam, ethylene oxide, and hydrogen peroxide plasma. However, ordinary non-medical non-woven fabrics cannot be used for multiple sterilization methods.

3. Quality control

Medical non-woven fabrics require certification through relevant product quality control systems, and there are strict standards and requirements for each step of the production process. The main differences between medical non-woven fabrics and ordinary non-woven fabrics are mainly reflected in these aspects. Both have their own uses and characteristics, and in use, as long as the correct selection is made according to the needs.
